Hackers hacked GeForce NOW's Armenian partner and obtained data of Ukrainian players
The cloud gaming service GeForce NOW was targeted by the ShinyHunters hacking group, but the scale of the incident appeared to be localized. The hack did not affect NVIDIA’s global infrastructure, but compromised user data of its Armenian partner GFN.am, whose services are used by gamers in Ukraine and neighboring countries.
NVIDIA has officially confirmed the incident. The investigation showed that the cybercriminals did not gain access to systems directly managed by the American technology giant.
«Our investigation has not revealed any impact on NVIDIA-managed services. The issue is limited to systems operated by a third-party partner, GeForce NOW Alliance, based in Armenia. We are working closely with the partner to support their investigation and resolution of the issue. Affected users will receive a notification from GFN.am,» NVIDIA said.
GFN.am also issued an official statement confirming the unauthorized interference with the database. The service team assured that users' payment information (bank card details) was not stored on compromised servers and is safe. However, the administration acknowledged the leak of personal identifiers and urged customers to update their passwords and check their two-factor authentication settings.
The breach concerns the provider GFN.am, which provides access to cloud gaming in Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova and Uzbekistan. According to preliminary data, the hackers have obtained a database with user names and email addresses. Information about subscription status and two-factor authentication metadata were also stolen.
For now, users who registered through the Armenian hub are advised to closely monitor notifications from GFN.am. Cybersecurity experts are warning of possible phishing emails that may use the NVIDIA brand to obtain passwords or payment details.
