«I understand there are managers at Nvidia telling their people to use less AI. Are you out of your mind?» he said at the company’s recent annual general meeting.
As Business Insider reports, Jensen Huang said that he strongly disagrees with this approach.
«I want every task that can be automated with AI to be automated with AI. I promise you, you will have a job,» the Nvidia chief assured.
The chipmaker isn’t the only one encouraging employees to use AI. Microsoft and Meta have previously reported plans to evaluate employees based on their use of AI, while Google has asked software engineers to use AI for programming. Amazon has also been in talks to introduce an AI programming assistant called Cursor after employees expressed a desire to do so.
Huang also said that Nvidia uses Cursor and called for the use of AI to solve work tasks. He noted that Nvidia employees should not worry that this technology will take away their jobs.
«Honestly, I think we’re probably still about 10,000 employees short… but the hiring pace needs to match the pace at which we can integrate and harmonize new employees,» Jensen Huang noted.
The AI boom has made Nvidia the world’s most valuable company, with a market cap of more than $4 trillion. Last week, the company that makes chips needed for AI power reported revenue of $57.01 billion in the latest quarter, up 62% from the same period last year.
However, Nvidia has come under pressure from investors after reports that Meta is considering moving some of its AI workloads to Google chips. News of the potential deal alone sent Nvidia shares down 4,1% in premarket trading and put the company on course to lose about $180 billion in market value in a single day.
