«The development of Ukrainian fiber-optic UAVs began in 2023 as a response to requests from Ukrainian military personnel. During tests, the drones successfully overcame water obstacles (rivers and lakes) and passed over power lines at speeds of up to 143 km/h,» the Ministry of Defense said .
In 2024, the first test batches of fiber-optic drones reached the Defense Forces and demonstrated the benefits of scaling this type of UAV.
3DTech produces a line of five fiber optic models that are already being supplied to combat brigades; they have spools of fiber ranging from 10 to 20 km in length.
The REBOFF 10 Lite 10KM Predator is designed to repel assaults and urban combat. Its effective range is 8-9 km, as pilots usually allocate 10-20% of the fiber to maneuvering and weather conditions.
The drone can carry a combat load of 1.8 kg, which makes it most effective at short distances. The cost of such a drone is about 33,000 UAH.
«REBOFF Predator 10 Lite 15KM» is a budget drone that can hit enemy equipment and remains maneuverable indoors.
«The additional 5 kilometers of fiber were worth the reduction in payload by only 300 grams. A warhead weighing 1.5 kilograms is more than enough to destroy armored vehicles with a cumulative charge or manpower with striking elements,» the Ministry of Defense says.
The declared price of such a drone on the manufacturer’s website is UAH 37,000.
«Predator 13 REBOFF 20KM» is suitable for destroying enemy guns, mortars and electronic warfare systems. It is equipped with two battery packs, which allows for better balancing of the drone, and makes it more maneuverable and convenient to control.
The cost of a drone of this model is 64,000 UAH.
The REBOFF 15KM Predator can wait in ambush for hours until a priority target appears. This model is powered by a single 8S3P 13,500 mAh battery pack, while the 20-25 km versions use two such packs. Reducing the number of batteries has allowed for an increased combat load. Such a drone costs 59,000 UAH.
«Predator REBOFF 10KM» is capable of carrying the largest payload in the line — 2.2 kg — at a distance of up to 10 km. This makes it useful for repelling enemy attacks, working on the front line and during urban battles. The cost of the drone is 54,000 UAH.
It is noted that the entire line of these UAVs is designed to fly at altitudes of up to 500 m at speeds of up to 70 km/h. However, some models have successfully uncoiled at speeds of up to 143 km/h during tests.
Currently, 3DTech is already preparing to codify drones with 25 and 30 km coils.
