A Ukrainian designer has developed the KidRush app — a visual timer for children that will help avoid stress during school and kindergarten preparations

Senior UX/UI Product Designer Mykhailo Pysmenny developed the KidRush mobile app. It is a visual timer for children that helps avoid stress, nagging, and endless reminders during morning school or kindergarten gatherings.
From your own pain to your work product
The idea for the app came from the developer's own parenting experience. Mykhailo encountered problems during the daily collection of his 5-year-old son for kindergarten.
“Where did it all start? As is often the case, from my own pain. Getting my 5-year-old son to school early took a lot of time and nerves, because children simply don’t feel what 5 minutes or half an hour are. Because of this, the school meetings dragged on, and we were constantly late,” shares Mykhailo Pysmenny.
Drawing on his 10 years of experience in UI/UX and Product Design, Mykhailo hypothesized that visualizing the passage of time would help a child better navigate tasks. After analyzing existing analogues in app stores, the designer decided to create his own product from scratch.
Currently, the first version (MVP) is already available for iOS and Android users.
How KidRush works
Most parents know how the morning rush turns into a grueling struggle to get out of the house on time. KidRush will help change this scenario by acting as a neutral and friendly gamified assistant for the child. Instead of constant micromanagement and shouts of “faster” from parents, the app offers a visual timer and a clear sequence of actions.
How the app can help:
children see visual progress in completing tasks (brushing teeth, getting dressed, collecting their briefcase) and understand what to do next;
the application acts as a neutral party, making the routine predictable and calm;
the child remains focused on the current task and is not distracted;
Tasks turn into useful habits, developing self-organization skills in the child.
