Molotov cocktails, eggs, swastikas: Tesla has become the center of outrage over DOGE activities. How are Americans expressing disgust with Musk?
A 41-year-old American man has been charged in connection with several incidents that occurred outside a Tesla dealership in Salem, Oregon. One of them was for allegedly throwing Molotov cocktails at the dealership. The charges come as Americans across the country are protesting against Elon Musk over his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and his mass layoffs.
Adam Matthew Lansky was charged with “unlawful possession of an unregistered destructive device,” according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice, after he allegedly “threw Molotov cocktails” at a Tesla dealership in Salem on Jan. 20, the same day President Donald Trump was inaugurated. Another incident at the dealership linked to Lansky occurred on Feb. 19, when Salem police said shots were fired at a building and a vehicle on the premises, Gizmodo reports .
The charges against Lansky come amid a surge in vandalism against Tesla dealerships not only in the US but around the world in response to the actions of the company's CEO, Elon Musk.
With no real way to voice their grievances, ordinary Americans are making the Tesla brand toxic. On Wednesday, a man in Massachusetts was arrested for “vandalism” for allegedly putting stickers on Tesla cars depicting Musk’s Nazi salute. Tesla charging stations in Northern California were recently covered in swastikas , and in Colorado, a woman was accused of putting stickers on a Tesla dealership with the word “Nazi.”

Tesla vehicles are often the target of attacks on the streets, with people often leaving flyers urging drivers to sell their vehicles. There have been countless reports of Tesla Cybertrucks being pelted with eggs and Mardi Gras beads .
"Driving a Tesla went from being cool to not so cool very quickly," one Tesla owner told KPTV News.
There is also the Tesla Takeover movement, which is organizing protests against Musk at Tesla dealerships across the U.S. A specially created website allows anyone to find protests near them.

Some Tesla drivers are putting bumper stickers expressing their disgust with Musk and his extremist views, while others are going so far as to replace the badges entirely, opting to disguise their Teslas with Toyota and Mazda emblems.
Musk's dismantling of the federal government is already hurting the U.S. economy: An employment report released Thursday showed layoffs rose to their highest level since February 2020. According to CBS News , employers cut 172,017 jobs last month, a 245% increase, and those numbers, analysts say, do not yet reflect the full extent of the damage.
