Ukrainian mobile operators are gradually abandoning support for the 3G network in favor of faster 4G. Because of this, Kyivstar has published specific dates for disconnection in different regions of Ukraine. When will they say goodbye to 3G in Kyiv, Dnipro, Odessa and Lviv.
«Kyivstar, like other operators around the world, is gradually phasing out outdated 3G technology in order to more actively develop 4G. The results of disabling the technology are a significant increase in 4G speed by an average of 62%», — the company notes.
The Kyivstar page dedicated to the transition from 3G to 4G lists the following deadlines:
The city of Kyiv will be disconnected from 3G from 24.06.2025.
Dniprovskyi district — from 26.08.2025.
Lviv district — from 18.03.2025.
Odessa district — from 29.04.2025.
In the Kharkiv region, only the shutdown date for the Chuguyiv district is indicated from 09.12.2025. More information about shutdowns in the regions of Ukraine can be found at the link .
3G refers to the third generation of cellular technology. These networks were deployed in the early 2000s and were a significant improvement over the second generation (2G), especially in terms of data transfer speeds and mobile internet capabilities.
The peak of 3G popularity occurred between 2005 and 2012, and smartphones that only work with 3G were usually released before 2013. To use 4G, the subscriber’s smartphone and SIM card must support LTE technology.
Kyivstar subscribers can check phone compatibility by dialing *245*5# and pressing the call button. To check SIM, use *245*4#.
UPD. From July 29, 2025, Kyivstar will stop supporting the 3G network in six districts of Kyiv and three cities of Dnipropetrovsk regions. The company says that this will speed up 4G by 62%.
In the Kyiv region, 3G support from Kyivstar will end in Buchanan, Obukhiv, Fastiv, Boryspil, Vyshgorod, and Brovar districts. In the Dnipro region, the network will be disconnected in the cities of Zhovti Vody, Pyatikhatky, and Verkhniodniprovsk.
According to Kyivstar’s tests in cities where the frequency redistribution from 3G to 4G has already been completed, the average 4G speed has increased by 62%. The company claims that this improves the customer experience and «confirms the need for network modernization throughout Ukraine.»
