Kyivstar CEO Oleksandr Komarov said whether Ukrainians could be left without communication if the power system completely stops working.
«In the worst case, if there is a total collapse of the power system, we are able to constantly maintain 30% of the network, but this capacity is increasing. Depending on the load, the batteries keep the BS running for up to 10 hours even in such frosts,» Komarov said in an interview with EP.
He added that over time, the capacity of batteries decreases, and the time required for recharging increases. «Frost creates operational challenges, it requires more time for recovery and there are a few more base stations that are out of service,» Komarov explained.
The operator’s CEO added that Kyivstar has a large number of stationary generators that operate automatically near base stations.
«Our task is to ensure their maintenance and refueling. The engine life of such generators is about 10,000-15,000 hours, which is not that bad,» he noted.
