Ukrainian company STETMAN, which works with satellite solutions for defense, is promoting the project of its own satellite constellation UASAT NANO: the network has already passed initial regulatory registration, and the first device is planned to be launched as a test.
According to DOU, in December 2025, Ukraine submitted an application to the International Telecommunication Union for registration of UASAT NANO, and on February 17, 2026, the network appeared in the official publication BR IFIC Space. The material states that this is a low-orbit network, which is planned to be placed at an altitude of approximately 550 km.
STETMAN founder Dmitry Stetsenko said that the company wants to launch the first satellite in October. It should be a test satellite: it is planned to test technologies and approaches to managing the future constellation. The company plans to deploy the constellation in 2027: at the first stage — 120 satellites, then the number should be increased every year. STETMAN expects to carry out serial launches with the participation of SpaceX, and the production of satellites at the start should be provided by the Danish GomSpace with further localization in Ukraine.
The DOU also notes that the project is focused on secure communication for government agencies, special services and the military, and not on the mass commercial market. According to Stetsenko, within one country the network will be able to support no more than 100,000 terminals, with a special emphasis on resistance to electronic warfare. In parallel, the team is building ground infrastructure and plans additional hiring, in particular about 50 IT specialists; they want to build the core of the network on 5G architecture.
Currently, the Defense Forces are actively using Starlink, but Ukraine is also looking for backup and independent communication channels. The idea of its own satellite constellation is one such direction, which should add resilience to the communication system in the event of failures or access restrictions.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how UASAT is positioned as a «Ukrainian alternative to Starlink», but in fact it is a satellite Internet service on a leased geostationary satellite with a high connection and traffic price. Because of this, the project is unlikely to become massive, but it may be useful for government agencies and businesses that need a backup communication channel.
