North Korea has begun transferring its missile unit to Russia, which could be armed with 120 ballistic missiles and 6 launchers.
This was reported by Reuters with reference to the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Chernyak. According to the GUR, about 90 North Korean servicemen are to be deployed as part of the Russian 112th missile brigade. Pyongyang has already sent a new batch of 40 missiles to Russia along with Korean servicemen.
They want to attach the Korean missile unit to the 112th missile brigade, which was involved in the attack on the center of Sumy on April 13, 2025. As a result of this attack on Palm Sunday, 35 people were killed and another 125 were injured.
Although North Korea has already sent its military to participate in the war on the side of Russia, its role in the missile strikes on Ukraine has been limited to supplying weapons. The deployment of a separate North Korean missile unit could mean that, along with the missiles, Pyongyang will provide personnel for missile strikes or missile maintenance.
According to the study of the wreckage, experts from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine concluded that the Korean KN-23 and KN-24 missiles are not direct copies of the Russian Iskanders. They have a different geometry and larger engines, although outdated technologies are used in their production. Despite this, like other ballistic missiles, they remain difficult targets for Ukrainian air defense.
