Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute has started the recruitment for the second stream of the «Veteran Master’s Degree» for 2026–2027. The program gives veterans the opportunity to obtain an engineering education in the field of prosthetics and rehabilitation engineering. The initiative is implemented with the financial support of appflame and with the assistance of Genesis for Ukraine.
The training will be conducted in the specialties of «Biomedical Engineering» and «Applied Mechanics». In addition to paying for the master’s degree, program participants will receive a monthly scholarship from appflame and, if necessary, places in the KPI dormitory with improved conditions.
Before starting the master’s program, participants will take a month-long introductory course «Advanced Technologies of Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering». After this, the training will last one and a half years and will cover 3D scanning, digital modeling, additive manufacturing, design and creation of modern prostheses and other rehabilitation solutions. Practical classes will be held in the updated laboratories of the university and the KPI Science Park.
The first batch of the program started in 2025. Then 29 veterans completed the preparatory course, and another 33 entered the master’s program. It was the results of the first year that became the basis for launching the second stream.
According to appflame founder and CEO Oleksandr Pasykov, the idea for the project came about after his family’s personal experience.
«After the experience of prosthetics and rehabilitation of my brother, I understand very well how critically our country lacks engineers who develop modern solutions in the field of prosthetics. We want Ukraine to have its own centers, engineers, and production facilities that create world-class prostheses and components,» he noted.
The company emphasizes that the goal of the program is not only to help veterans get a new profession, but also to form Ukraine’s own engineering school in the field of prosthetics.
The head of the Genesis for Ukraine Foundation, Anastasia Kladova, notes that along with the launch of the program, the university is modernizing its educational infrastructure and creating accessible spaces for veterans.
Director of the KPI Science Park, Natalia Seminska, adds that veterans become not only students, but also developers of technological solutions for the prosthetics industry.
Veterans with the status of a combat participant who have a bachelor’s, specialist’s, or master’s degree in any specialty can apply for the second stream. Applications will be accepted until July 27.
