Kyivstar plans to buy six solar power plants in Lviv region - they were previously estimated at $50–60 million

Mobile operator Kyivstar plans to purchase six solar power plants in the Lviv region.

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has already received relevant applications for gaining control over assets, Forbes Ukraine reports .

These are the companies Energy Space, Ternovytsia Solar, Ternovytsia Solar Plus, Sunlight Generation, Energopostach-Plus, and Lightfull. Their total capacity as of 2021 was about 103.9 MW. Four of these assets are associated with developer Ivan Torsky (Greenville company), and two more are associated with the Trofymenko family, co-owners of the Multiplex cinema chain.

The same power plants were already tried to be sold to the French TotalEnergies (through Total Eren) in 2021. At that time, the deal was estimated at $50–60 million, but it was not completed.

According to market participants' estimates, cited by Forbes, the value of the assets may now be lower due to equipment wear and tear. The estimated price is about $400,000 per 1 MW, which gives a possible deal value of approximately UAH 1.7 billion, or $41–42 million. Kyivstar does not comment on the details of the potential deal.

This could be the operator’s second investment in the energy sector. In December 2025, Kyivstar acquired the 12.95 MW Sanwin 11 solar power plant. At the time, the company explained that its own generation allows it to partially cover energy consumption and hedge the risks of rising electricity prices. According to estimates, this solar power plant provides about 4% of the company’s needs, which could indicate a total consumption of more than 300 MW.

Experts suggest that Kyivstar can use the electricity from these solar power plants to power its own infrastructure, in particular data centers in the Lviv region, and later transfer part of the generation to direct contracts for its own needs in order to reduce electricity transmission costs.
