The developers of the Ukrainian platform Lapathoniia announced the launch of the country’s first AI assistant, Lapathoniia Chat, which works on the basis of Ukrainian large language models (LLM). The entire infrastructure of the project is deployed domestically in the cloud of the operator De Novo to store confidential user data within domestic data centers.

The launch of the new demonstration service was announced by the project’s co-founders, Bohdan Didenko and Vladyslav Melnyk. According to them, the main goal of the development is to clearly demonstrate the potential of local language models in the format of dialogue with an AI assistant familiar to users.
The Lapathoniia Chat service allows you to test Ukrainian neural networks in typical everyday scenarios. Among the available tools are dialogue, integrated web search, saving conversation history, assistant memory, working with downloaded files, and a deep research mode.
According to the developers, this format of interaction will help the Ukrainian IT sector and business perceive local LLMs not just as abstract academic research, but as a ready-made technology that can be integrated and developed right now.
«The possibilities of a language model are best seen not in tables or descriptions, but in real interaction… We want Ukrainian LLMs to be perceived not as abstract research, but as technology that can be interacted with, integrated, and developed,» the startup team notes.
The project is currently in closed beta testing. Developers are collecting feedback on the quality of answers, speed of work, interaction with the context, and looking for new usage scenarios. Previously, the Lapathoniia infrastructure platform was launched with the scientific support of the Department of Artificial Intelligence Systems of the Lviv Polytechnic National University. The project is aimed at developers, government agencies, and businesses that are interested in storing data within the country and using AI models optimized for the Ukrainian language.
At launch, the service provides access to two Ukrainian models — MamayLM and LapaLLM (the latter being the first national reasoning AI). The platform supports an OpenAI-compatible API, allowing developers to integrate Ukrainian LLMs into their own products by simply changing the base server address in the code.
