Danish company LEGO A/S has launched a legal battle against a Ukrainian entrepreneur who sold the sets through an online store. The manufacturer of the legendary toys accuses the entrepreneur of piracy, demands the destruction of the counterfeit goods and the payment of substantial compensation.
Danish company LEGO A/S has launched a legal battle against a Ukrainian entrepreneur who sold the sets through an online store. The manufacturer of the legendary toys accuses the entrepreneur of piracy, demands the destruction of the counterfeit goods and the payment of substantial compensation.
The Kyiv City Commercial Court, by its ruling of June 11, 2026, has already opened proceedings in case No. 910/6005/26. A dev.ua journalist examined the court document.
LEGO lawyers discovered that the Ukrainian online store podarok.in.ua, run by a sole proprietor, was selling massive amounts of toy construction sets that allegedly completely copied the original LEGO TECHNIC series.
Moreover, the counterfeits were distributed in boxes that allegedly illegally reproduced the unique and copyrighted artistic design of LEGO packaging.
The lawsuit includes five top and most expensive models of automobile series:
Designer Porsche GT3 RS
Designer Bugatti Chiron
Designer Porsche 911 RSR
Designer Land Rover Defender
Designer Lamborghini Sian
We went to the website podarok.in.ua and found the Porsche GT3 RS designer.
This is what it looks like and costs 5,000 UAH.
The Porsche GT3 RS constructor can also be found on the Internet. However, it costs 9 times more — 45,000 UAH.
The Danish corporation’s appetites are commensurate with its scale. LEGO A/S is asking the court to impose tough sanctions:
Complete ban: Prohibit the entrepreneur from using the design of LEGO TECHNIC boxes on the website and stop selling these toys.
Disposal: Completely remove from the FOP and destroy all existing copies of the above-listed constructors.
Monetary penalty: To recover compensation in the amount of UAH 1,164,800 from the individual entrepreneur in favor of LEGO.
Fine to the budget: Impose an additional 10% fine on the entrepreneur (that’s another 116,480 UAH), which will go directly to state revenue.
An interesting technical nuance: during the preparation of the lawsuit, LEGO representatives tried to independently find out all the legal data about the operation of the site podarok.in.ua. They submitted a request for a lawyer to the provider LLC «Hosting Ukraine», where the web resource is hosted. However, the hosting provider ignored the request.
Because of this, LEGO turned to Themis for help. The judge granted the motion and officially obliged the hosting company to provide the court with complete information about the site owner: name, EDRPOU or RNOKPP code, contact numbers, addresses, and email.
If the provider ignores the court’s ruling, it will face sanctions for failure to fulfill procedural obligations, up to and including criminal liability.
The court decided to consider the case under the rules of general claim proceedings. The first preparatory hearing is scheduled for August 13, 2026.
The Ukrainian entrepreneur has 15 days from the date of delivery of the ruling to submit his response to the statement of claim. If he fails to do so, the court will consider the case solely based on the materials provided by LEGO. We continue to monitor this case.
