Mobile operator lifecell, part of the DVL group of companies (Datagroup-Volia-lifecell), announced the completion of a comprehensive modernization of its network in the capital of Ukraine. In five months, the company managed to significantly improve the quality of mobile communications and improve coverage, applying a non-standard approach with maximum efficiency.

In five months, the company managed to significantly improve the quality of mobile communications and improve coverage, applying a non-standard approach with maximum efficiency.
The goal of the project was to improve customer experience by expanding network coverage and increasing mobile Internet speed for more than 1 million lifecell subscribers in the capital, amid a constant increase in data traffic consumption. To achieve this result without years of deploying complex technical solutions, lifecell chose an alternative strategy — point modernization based on a detailed analysis of the real state of the network.
The lifecell team conducted drive tests in different areas of Kyiv, creating an interactive map of key radio and service network indicators. A range of network indicators that affect the quality of mobile services were measured: signal strength level, radio signal quality, subscriber data transfer speed in download/upload directions, channel quality indicator, voice call quality assessment, delay level from subscriber request to content receipt. This allowed identifying network areas that needed priority optimization to improve communication quality and, as a result, improve customer experience.
One of the operator’s main tasks was to improve mobile coverage indoors, as well as increase capacity and coverage outdoors. Based on the analysis of the interactive map, the operator’s team upgraded more than 700 base stations in Kyiv, implementing a number of technical solutions. In particular, the installation of additional LTE900 and LTE2100 cellular modules expanded coverage, and upgrading the LTE1800 range equipment to the latest version increased network capacity and ensured more stable communication in areas with high traffic. All work was completed within five months.
According to the results of the modernization of the lifecell network in the capital:
coverage increased by 23%;
data loading speed increased by an average of 29%;
latency decreased by 58%.
Thanks to the redesign and optimization of the lifecell network in Kyiv, we managed to achieve a significant improvement in the speed of access to content — the signal delay was reduced from 43 to 25 milliseconds. This ensures faster network response for online games, video conferencing, streaming video and other services.
