An IT-specialist from Lviv created an application for children with speech delays: the impetus for the idea was his daughter's illness
Serhiy started working on the app six months ago. The idea came from a problem his family faced: his daughter has cerebral palsy, and this became the impetus to solve the problem of hundreds of young Ukrainians who cannot speak.
Serhiy started working on the app six months ago. The idea came from a problem his family faced: his daughter has cerebral palsy, and this became the impetus to solve the problem of hundreds of young Ukrainians who cannot speak.
His daughter, Yarynka, is 5 years old. She wants to communicate, and the parents were looking for a way to understand the child. Working with psychologists, speech therapists, and other doctors did not help, the TSN story says .
Serhiy learned about alternative communication options from scientific articles.
"These are cards with certain actions and objects. And the child chooses what he wants to say. For example, cards with the words "I want" and "ball" can mean that the child wants to play ball," Serhiy explains the system.
At first, they used flashcards, but they quickly realized that it was not convenient. There are over 40 pictures and it takes a lot of time and space to compose a sentence. So the girl's father downloaded the flashcards into the program and voiced them.
This application is not entirely Serhiy's own development, but existing analogues are paid and expensive. Therefore, Yarina's father wants to make his application available in Ukraine and free of charge.
Yarinka quickly adapted to the application and is now actively using it.
In addition to helping with communication, such an application can improve the psychological state, because the child does not feel isolated and can get what he wants.
Serhiy dreams that his application will not only help parents understand each other better, but in the future will become a community for such families and relevant specialists.
