This is reported by nauka.ua with reference to the journal Reproductive BioMedicine Online. It is noted that this is the first artificial insemination, where all processes from the selection of eggs and sperm to the selection of the most viable embryos were carried out under the supervision of specialists.
The technology improves on the method in which sperm is injected directly into the cytoplasm of the egg, which requires high precision. To eliminate the human error factor, scientists created artificial intelligence that guided all the processes of artificial insemination.
The new method was tested on a couple who were unable to conceive a child on their own due to low sperm motility in the man and pathology in the woman’s eggs. The AI selected the most viable sperm and implanted them into three eggs from a donor woman.
In parallel, doctors performed artificial insemination using traditional methods and instructed artificial intelligence to select the most viable embryos. It selected 2 embryos that were created using AI, and one of them developed and gave birth to a healthy child.
People just watched the process and pressed buttons to start the next stage of the procedure. The study notes that this could allow doctors to perform artificial insemination even from the other side of the world. But first they need to compare the effectiveness of this technology with traditional methods of artificial insemination.
Earlier, it became known about the startup from Mexico, Conceivable Life Sciences, which creates robots working on the basis of artificial intelligence to automate part of the process of artificial insemination. Last year, Conceivable Life Sciences announced that they became the first company in the world to fertilize an egg with a single push of a button.
