Let us recall that the image of Valery Markus, in which he appeared in a series of videos explaining his disappearance from the media space in 2023, immediately evoked associations among Ukrainian gamers.
A bearded, cigar-smoking soldier is not uncommon in the gaming industry, with Big Boss from Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid series and Captain John Price from Activision’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare immediately coming to mind. While both characters are known for taking out Russian soldiers, Price has also done so in Ukraine, making him perhaps most reminiscent of Valery Marcus, noted veteran Oleg Simoroz.
«People can say whatever they want. I’ve never played Call of Duty, to be honest. I don’t like clowns… Well, I don’t like clowns like that», — Marcus told Bombardier host Roman Bebekh.
He added that comparing him to Captain Price is a «human perception» that he doesn’t want to argue with. «If that person wants to perceive it that way — okay», — Valery Marcus pointed out.
According to him, from video games he prefers old-school RPGs like the first part of Baldur’s Gate (1998), Fallout 1 (1997) and Fallout 2 (1998), and Arcanum (2001). «Something old that you look at now, and people are already uncomfortable with how it looks today», — Marcus commented on the outdated graphics of these projects.
The military man also responded to questions about smoking cigars in his videos and comments about excessive pathos.
«Yes, what’s the pathos? The fact that I smoke a cigar? If I conventionally smoke a cigar or a pipe all the time, why shouldn’t I do it while working? For me, it’s part of my everyday life. For someone, this element stands out. But that’s not my problem,» Valeriy Markus noted, smoking a pipe.
