Musk put Mars colonization on hold. Instead, he announced “building a self-sustaining city on the Moon.” What happened?
American businessman Elon Musk said that SpaceX will focus on creating a «self-sustaining city» on the Moon, which could be built «in less than 10 years.» He said that implementing this idea on Mars would take longer.
American businessman Elon Musk said that SpaceX will focus on creating a «self-sustaining city» on the Moon, which could be built «in less than 10 years.» He said that implementing this idea on Mars would take longer.
«SpaceX has already shifted its focus to building a self-sustaining city on the Moon, as we can potentially achieve this in less than 10 years, whereas Mars would take over 20 years,» Musk wrote on X.com .
Henoted that travel to Mars is only possible when the planets align every 26 months, while the Moon can be «launched every 10 days.» According to him, the «travel time» to Mars is six months, and to the Moon, two days.
«However, SpaceX will also strive to build a city on Mars and will begin doing so in about 5-7 years, but the main priority is to ensure the future of civilization, and the Moon (for this — ed.) is a faster option,» he noted.
Recall that earlier Musk reminded Ukrainians of the needto register Starlink terminals. Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution that makes it mandatory to verify all Starlink satellite terminals operating in Ukraine. Unverified devices will eventually be disconnected from the network. These measures were taken to prevent the use of smuggled Starlink terminals by the Russian military on Ukrainian territory.
