Google said that this feature is experimental, so the generated images «may not fully match the original photo.» For best results, it is recommended to upload well-lit, clear photos taken with the front-facing camera, writes TechCrunch.
The Me Meme feature will work with Google’s Gemini AI, specifically the Nano Banana model. It is already used in other AI features in the Google Photos app, such as the ability to render images in new styles, such as cartoons or paintings.

With this functionality, Google can keep users who want to play with AI features in its ecosystem and not give them an excuse to switch to applications from competitors, such as OpenAI.
The Me Meme feature is just starting to roll out to the Google Photos app. It will initially be available to users in the US. When it does appear in the app, it will be located in the Create tab.
