Meta has added a summary feature to WhatsApp based on its Meta AI artificial intelligence, which will summarize unread messages in a chat.
These summaries will only be visible to the user, not to other chat participants.
“Message summaries use private processing technology that allows Meta AI to generate a response without Meta or WhatsApp ever seeing your messages or private summaries. No one else in the chat can see that you have summarized unread messages,” the company’s blog says .
Although this feature is disabled by default, WhatsApp shows a small icon indicating that it is available.
You can enable it in Settings > Chats > Private Handling, where you can turn individual features on and off.
Meta is initially launching this feature in the US with English support. It will be available in other countries and languages later this year.
The company said the new stack allows WhatsApp to privately access context from your chat to process queries using its artificial intelligence, allowing it to summarize messages or provide writing suggestions.
