Meta has not disclosed financial terms of the deal, but Axios reports that Moltbook co-founders Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr will join Meta on March 16.
Matt Schlicht has been working on autonomous AI agents since 2023 and launched Moltbook as an experimental space for AI agents in late January. Benn Parr is a former editor and columnist at Mashable and CNET.
«The Moltbook team joining MSL opens up new opportunities for AI agents to work for the benefit of people and businesses,» a Meta representative commented on the Moltbook acquisition.
Meta says that existing Moltbook customers can continue to use the platform, but this option will likely disappear in the future.
«The Moltbook team has given agents the ability to verify their identity and contact each other on behalf of their owners. This creates a registry where agents are verified and linked to their human owners. Their team has opened up new opportunities for agents to interact, share content, and coordinate complex tasks,» Meta noted.
Moltbook launched in late January 2026, with founder Matt Schlicht positioning the project as a platform where autonomous agents generate posts and comments themselves, while humans only observe. It is estimated that there were about 17,000 owners behind the more than 1.5 million agents, an average of almost 90 agents per person.
Recall that last week, the Ukrainian social media monitoring platform YouScan began tracking brand mentions in conversations of AI agents on Moltbook .
