The company is pouring tens of billions of dollars into investments in AI, augmented reality and other metaverse technologies, which has raised its capital expenditure forecast for 2024 to a record high — from $37 billion to $40 billion, Reuters writes .
Meta also releases many of its AI models for free use by developers, believing that this approach can benefit its business by helping to create better tools for its services.
“We believe this research could pave the way for fully embodied agents in the metaworld, leading to more realistic NPCs, the democratization of character animation, and new types of immersive experiences,” the company said in a statement.
Meta Motivo solves body control issues often found in digital avatars, allowing them to perform movements more realistically like a human, the company says.
Meta also announced that it is implementing another learning model for language modeling called the Large Concept Model (LCM), which aims to "decouple reasoning from linguistic representation."
“LCM is a significant departure from a typical LLM. Instead of predicting the next token, LCM is trained to predict the next high-level concept or idea represented by a complete fragment in a multimodal and multilingual embedding space,” the company notes.
Other AI tools released by Meta include Video Seal, which embeds a hidden watermark into videos, making it invisible to the naked eye but traceable.
