Microsoft has finally released a version of Copilot, its free generative AI chatbot, for macOS.
Similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other AI chatbots, Copilot allows users to ask questions and receive AI-generated answers. Copilot is designed to help users with a variety of tasks, such as composing emails, summarizing documents, writing cover letters, etc. It also has an image generator based on DALL-E 3.
When Microsoft first launched Copilot two years ago, it was only available on the Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari web browsers. It didn't arrive on Android, iOS, and iPadOS devices until early 2024. The AI assistant is also integrated into Teams, Outlook, and other Microsoft apps. However, this new Copilot app brings special features to Mac users.
An important point about the macOS app is that it requires macOS 14.0 or later and a Mac model with the Apple M1 chip or later. Similarly, Apple Intelligence, Apple’s artificial intelligence system, requires macOS 15.1 and a Mac model with the M1 chip or later, TechCrunch reports .
The wait is over — we can finally hang out on macOS! Download Copilot for Mac and try me out today.

In other recent news, Microsoft announced earlier this week that all Copilot users now have free, unlimited access to the Voice voice assistant and Think Deeper. Copilot's Voice feature can help users practice a new language, while Think Deeper is powered by OpenAI's o1 model and can solve more complex problems.
