Microsoft is launching URL monitoring in Teams to combat malicious links. The platform will automatically notify users if private or group messages contain dangerous links.
The company claims that this feature will protect against spam, phishing, and malware.
This feature was first announced in August 2025 in an official roadmap titled “Protection against malicious URLs in Teams chats and channels,” TechRadar writes .
According to the roadmap, "Microsoft Teams can now detect and warn users about malicious URLs sent in Teams chats and channels, strengthening protection against malware attacks."
This feature, with build ID 499893, is now available in public preview on Android, iOS, Teams on the web, and on PC, with a full launch planned for November.
Senders will see a warning if they share a malicious URL, with detailed information or general warnings and the ability to edit or delete messages. End users will see clear warnings before interacting.
The feature works by scanning all URLs against Microsoft's threat intelligence databases. It works for both internal and external messages.
Users can enable this feature during public preview via the Admin Center in the Notifications settings section. Once fully launched, it will be enabled by default, but administrators will be able to disable it both in the Admin Center and via PowerShell.
