Brave1 CEO Andriy Hrytsenyuk said that Ukrainian manufacturers are testing prototypes of microwave weapons that can hit entire swarms of drones.
He announced this in the «Militarnyi» program — «To Arms!».
Such weapons use powerful electromagnetic radiation in the microwave range to destroy equipment, including drones. The most famous such development is the Leonidas microwave system from the American company Epirus.
It is capable of neutralizing several drones at the same time (in tests last fall, 45 UAVs were hit simultaneously) and has the advantages of low cost of use and no ammunition required. Leonidas directs electromagnetic waves that disrupt the drone’s electronics and burn it out from the inside.
Among the disadvantages are the short range of the system (up to 2 km) and the time required to burn out the drone’s electronics. However, developers are working on improving these characteristics.
Brave1 CEO Andriy Hrytsenyuk did not disclose details about Ukrainian microwave systems and their testing.
