Hollywood actress of Ukrainian origin Milla Jovovich participated in the development of the MemPalace artificial intelligence system. She worked on it for several months with the help of the Claude AI.
Jovovich said that MemPalace is an artificial intelligence-based memory improvement tool that translates the «memory palace» principle into a digital format. The project aims to make the well-known method of improving memory more accessible to modern users by using artificial intelligence to create personalized virtual environments.
Milla Jovovich said she was working on an unannounced game project and encountered problems with how existing artificial intelligence systems store and retrieve information.
«During this process, I came across a number of issues that I knew needed to be addressed if I ever wanted to complete the work,» Jovovich said.
According to Jovovich, this led to the creation of MemPalace, an open-source system available on GitHub that she describes as a new way for AI to work with memory, storage, and information retrieval. Jovovich said she developed the concept and architecture of the system, while Ben Sigman, a programmer and CEO of the Bitcoin lending platform Libre Labs, built the software.

The concept of a «memory palace» involves associating pieces of information with specific locations within an imaginary house or environment. By mentally moving through this space, a person can recall information associated with each location.
Milla Jovovich said she was intrigued by the concept and researched how memory experts store and retrieve information. Sigman added that instead of sending data to a background agent in the cloud, Mempalace analyzes conversations locally and organizes them into a «palace.»
Sean Ren, a professor of computer science at the University of Southern California (USC) and CEO of Sahara AI, said MemPalace could be seen as an alternative approach to structuring the way AI systems store information. Because the system acts as a general method of organizing information, Ren believes it could potentially work across AI platforms.
«This seems to be a general approach, so scaling it up shouldn’t be a problem. It can work with different agent systems,» Ren said. However, he cautioned that claims of improved performance have yet to be confirmed outside of controlled tests.
Jovovich said that Anthropic’s Claude helped shape the project after Sigman introduced her to the developer tool.
«I immediately realized that as an artist who loves to write, Claude could turn my words and ideas into reality… AI only knows what has already been done. It is the people who control it who really create something unique and special,» the actress said.
The MemPalace repository on Github has currently collected 22,000 stars and over 2,000 forks.
