Since the beginning of the year, the number of successful enemy hits using the AI-guided system has increased 10 times. The department emphasizes that it strictly adheres to the ethical principles of using artificial intelligence in the defense sector: machine vision technology helps increase the accuracy of attacks, but the final decision on the hit is always made by the operator.
Seven manufacturers of autonomous drone systems participated in the testing. Multi-rotor platforms larger than 10 inches with payloads of 2 kg or more were tested.
According to a single testing scenario, each UAV had to go through the following stages:
cover a distance of 2 kilometers;
detect and capture a moving target (lightly armored vehicles) from a distance of at least 500 meters;
to hit the target in a completely autonomous mode — the pilot completely removed his hands from the control panel.
Each team had three attempts. The result was considered successful if the target was hit at least 2 times out of 3.
This is the first large-scale comparative test of automatic guidance modules according to clear standardized criteria. According to the results of the tests, 6 out of 7 manufacturers successfully completed the task and received official recommendations for purchase.
