The Ministry of Defense plans to launch its own defense satellites into orbit by 2030. What other goals are on the roadmap of the Space Policy Directorate?

Deputy Minister of Defense Kateryna Chernogorenko presented the Ministry of Defense’s roadmap for the development of Ukraine’s space industry. It is divided into three stages of task implementation and covers the next 10 years.
The presentation took place at the Space For Ukraine forum, AIN.UA reports.
«We want all innovators, engineers who are thinking about how to develop space technologies, to know the contacts, understand the entry points to interact with us. The Directorate is a coordination center, a center for generating meanings and generating policies,» the Deputy Minister of Defense explained.
The roadmap includes three stages:
In 2025,an audit of the state of the infrastructure, development of documents, training of specialists, and launch of pilot projects will begin.
By 2030, the Ministry of Defense plans to have national satellites for defense purposes, as well as a new air alert notification and space control system.
By 2035, a holistic space defense segment should be formed, which will participate in global projects and ensure «sustainable development of the space industry in Ukraine».
According to Kateryna Chernogorenko, the Ministry of Defense will make efforts to ensure that the space direction does not «choke» in two years. According to her, it is important that the project lasts for decades, because these are «long programs that need to be implemented.»
The development of the space industry should give Ukraine independence and autonomy in matters of intelligence, navigation, tracking, space control, warning of enemy missile attacks, environmental monitoring, as well as the launch and operation of satellites.
Currently, Ukraine has only one satellite, while Russia has about 200, according to estimates by the Ministry of Defense.
According to the Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine, Hanna Gvozdiar, the acquisition of the «people’s satellite» was an extraordinary experience for Ukraine and a «good start» for its space industry.
«Independence was our main goal when we bought the first satellite. This small independence [in intelligence] allowed us to work on certain operations that we were able to prepare on our own», — Gvozdiar noted.
Recall that earlier Kateryna Chernogorenko announced the start of work of the Space Policy Department. According to her, it will create a legislative framework, be a center for technical expertise, and become a coordinator between all participants in the industry: engineers, innovators, developers, state institutions, and the scientific community.
