"Not a change of course, but a continuation of the path". The Ministry of Digital Transformation told what its new head, Oleksandr Bornyakov, will do

«Oleksandr Bornyakov joined the Ministry of Digital Affairs in 2019, back when the digital state was more of an ambition than a reality. Over the years, he has become one of those who turned the idea into a system», the department noted.

The Ministry of Digital Affairs highlighted the following achievements of Bornyakov in the field of digitalization:

• «Diya.City»: Project architect. Developed the legislative framework that created tax and legal conditions for tech businesses in Europe.
• Cooperation with tech giants: Conducted successful negotiations on PayPal’s entry into the Ukrainian market and opening access to ChatGPT from OpenAI.
• Ukrainian Startup Fund: As the Secretary of the Supervisory Board, he contributed to the financing of 470 startups for UAH 380 million. The winners of the programs attracted over $120 million in investments.
• IT Generation: Implemented a project thanks to which over 1,800 Ukrainians learned new IT specialties free of charge.
• International recognition: Presented the Ukrainian ecosystem on the main stage of Web Summit 2024 and launched the UK-Ukraine TechBridge strategic partnership.
• «Diya.City Invest»: Initiated a project to simplify the creation of venture funds and develop an investment culture in Ukraine (in development).

The Ministry of Digital Transformation is headed by Oleksandr Bornyakov, who will work on the full synchronization of Ukrainian digital policy with European standards and Ukraine’s accession to the EU’s Digital Single Market. He will also work on the development of AI and the implementation of «ethical norms and the development of the Ukrainian artificial intelligence ecosystem».

The focus of Bornyakov’s work will be:

• development of the «Diia.City Invest» initiative to build a full-fledged venture ecosystem in Ukraine and attract capital to Ukrainian tech products;
• continued support for the Brave1 platform and defense innovations;
• scaling robotic solutions in various sectors of the economy and developing roadmaps and policies in this direction.
• legalization of virtual assets, stimulation of Web3 innovations, and scaling of robotics in the economy.

Recall that on January 14, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted to appoint the former head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, to the position of Minister of Defense.

Before that, he gave a speech in which he talked about army reform, artificial intelligence, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, the audit of the Ministry of Defense, and the de-occupation of his hometown.
