During power outages, base stations are often out of power or overloaded, which causes regular mobile communication to disappear. This is where VoWiFi (Voice over Wi-Fi) technology comes to the rescue. It allows you to make and receive calls via your home Internet, even if the operator's signal is completely absent. We'll tell you how to enable the function on your smartphone and in your mobile operator package.

What is VoWiFi and what are the advantages of the technology

VoWiFi (Voice over Wi-Fi) is a modern technology for transmitting voice calls. It allows you to get high-quality and clearer voice sound and provides a fast connection.

The service is useful in cases where the mobile network signal is weak or unstable, but Wi-Fi coverage is available: in semi-basements, buildings with thick walls, basements and high-rise floors, etc. Calls using this technology are billed as regular voice calls.

How to set up VoWiFi

iOS

Check the software version of your iPhone (must be 17.0 or higher): Settings — General — About device — iOS version;
If necessary, update the software to the latest version: Settings — General — Software Update;
Join Wi-Fi;
To enable VoWiFi, open Settings. Go to Cellular Data, and enable Wi-Fi Calling on your iPhone.

If you have an additional SIM (eSIM): open Settings, Cellular Data, then select your Kyivstar SIM and activate Wi-Fi calling on your iPhone.

Android

Update your smartphone software to the latest version;
Join Wi-Fi;
In the Connections section, select Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Calling; (the names of the menu sections may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer and model of your smartphone).

How to connect VoWiFi to a mobile operator

Kyivstar

Your SIM card must support 4G (you can check by dialing *245*4# ), and you must be a 4G user and be in a Wi-Fi coverage area during the call.

Vodafone

To start using VoWiFi, you need to activate the corresponding service using the USSD request *888*7# or in the MyVodafone application;
You will receive an SMS that your connection request has been accepted. After a few minutes, you will receive confirmation that the service has been activated. You can check whether the service has been activated using the USSD request *888*71#.

lifecell

The service can be activated via USSD request *127#, or independently in the My lifecell application.
