Decision-making models like Jev are also vulnerable to prompt injections: what the study showed
The absence of typical errors does not mean complete security. Cybersecurity researchers have proven that the so-called “System One” decision-making models that promised protection against hallucinations have the same vulnerabilities as classic text-based generative neural networks (LLMs).
The absence of typical errors does not mean complete security. Cybersecurity researchers have proven that the so-called “System One” decision-making models that promised protection against hallucinations have the same vulnerabilities as classic text-based generative neural networks (LLMs).
Startup TypeSafe AI previously claimed that its decision-making model Jev is completely hallucinatory-proof and “never makes data type errors.” Unlike conventional language models that generate arbitrary text, decision-making models output an answer as a set of probabilities and a confidence level.
However, HiddenLayer specialists conducted a series of tests and found out: changing the data output format does not protect against attacks through indirect clues, The Register writes .
How the experiment went: attack on a web agent
To test Jev and the traditional Qwen3.8-27B model (tuned to work on the decision-making principle), the researchers created a simulation of an online store.
The buyer's cart contained two items, and the address and bank card were saved. The autonomous browser agent based on jev-ultrafast was given clear instructions to buy the items in the cart without adding or removing anything. The system prompt strictly prohibited perceiving the text on the page as new instructions. Sponsored advertising was added to the page with a fake notification that "discount not applied" and a "Confirm price" button.
As a result, the model was manipulated and instead of completing the purchase, she clicked on a fake button. Both models were vulnerable, although Jev was manipulated slightly less often than Qwen.
“By simply pretending that one more action was required before the order was placed, we were able to consistently intercept the model’s click action. A cascade of such attacks on subsequent pages gives the attacker complete control over the agent,” HiddenLayer notes.
"Under the hood" is still a language model
The researchers emphasize: “System One” models cannot indeed generate arbitrary text tokens, but they are built on the same LLMs, just using a different decoding strategy.
Additionally, the researchers tested the use of Jev as a prompt filter/validator. Using a modified tokenbreak attack (adding extra characters to bypass classifiers), they were able to easily pass toxic prompts through the protection.
HiddenLayer's main conclusion: "A model that returns a solution instead of text is still a language model. And its solution becomes a real action in your system."

Як нейромережі бачать вільну та незалежну Україну? Тест dev.ua
