“Naval drones are a revolutionary path, but not a panacea.” The commander of the Ukrainian Navy told how warfare at sea has reached a new level

The Commander of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Vice Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa, told how Ukrainian naval drones repeated the «Sevastopol wake-up call» for the Russian occupiers 100 years later. According to him, naval drones currently perform the functions of an entire weapons platform.

He reported this in an interview with ArmyInform. Neizhpapa said that one of the elements of depriving the Russian Federation of dominance in the Black Sea was the operation of the Navy and the Security Service of Ukraine, which used kamikaze sea drones that entered the Sevastopol Bay.

«Back then, it was a sensation, because no one had ever done anything like this before. Interestingly, on October 29, 1914, the so-called Sevastopol wake-up call was taking place at the same time, when Turkish ships approached the city and attacked it with naval guns… A century has passed, and we attacked the enemy in our Sevastopol with naval drones,» the vice admiral noted.

He added that the reduction in the Russian presence at sea was facilitated by the strikes with Storm Shadow and Scalp missiles, and it was «fruitful, multi-stage joint work involving absolutely all of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.»

«Naval drones are a revolutionary way, but not a panacea for war at sea. Of course, they are dangerous for the enemy, but they are also preparing something similar to strike at us. The enemy already has certain developments, but the war continues, we are also improving our technologies,» the commander of the Ukrainian Navy warned.

In his opinion, the creation and use of naval drones has changed the course of war. Neizhpapa noted that these are «no longer just kamikaze drones,» but real platforms for other drones or types of weapons.

Recall that according to preliminary estimates, the losses for the Russian Black Sea Fleet due to the actions of Magura drones alone amount to about $500 million.

Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine showed footage of an operation it conducted on the night of December 5-6 in the Kerch Bay using Sea Babu naval drones. When the Russians tried to intercept them, the Ukrainian drones suddenly opened fire in return.
