Mozilla has announced the launch of Firefox Enterprise, a special version of its browser designed for businesses, government organizations, healthcare, and financial institutions. The main focus is on enhanced data control, independence from Google or Apple technologies, and compatibility with existing IT systems.
The first companies to get access to the new solution will be companies in France, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, after which Firefox Enterprise will become available in other countries around the world, TechRadar reports .
An alternative to monopoly
Mozilla notes that modern businesses have become overly dependent on a limited number of technology giants, which creates significant security risks and makes switching service providers extremely difficult.
A key advantage of Firefox Enterprise is that it is one of the few enterprise browsers that runs on its own open-source Gecko engine, rather than Google's Chromium or Apple's WebKit.
"If all your options are built on the same technology, then 'choice' is an illusion," Mozilla CEO Anthony Enzor-DeMeo said.
Key capabilities for IT administrators
Firefox Enterprise combines the browser itself with a management console for IT professionals.
Complete control over data: customers choose where to store data, how to manage it, and how to regulate access to artificial intelligence.
Flexible integration: The browser easily integrates into the company's existing IT infrastructure. Customers do not need to change their identity provider, SIEM systems, or mobile device management (MDM) services - they just add the browser, the management infrastructure of which is managed by the organization itself.
Protect sensitive information: Enhanced security measures meet strict regulatory requirements for handling private and financial data.
According to Mozilla, Firefox has a total monthly active audience of around 200 million users. At the same time, according to analytics platform Statcounter, Firefox's share of the desktop browser market is around 6%, while Google Chrome maintains its lead with 65%.
Entering the enterprise solutions market is Mozilla's attempt to strengthen its position in a sector where data independence and privacy are critically important.
In addition, the company confirmed that a corporate version of the email client, Thunderbird Enterprise, is currently under development, details of which are promised to be revealed soon.
