The team at the Ukrainian data center GigaCenter has created a music track using the sounds of servers and other IT equipment. The goal of the project «This is what DATA sounds like» is to draw attention to the importance of critical IT infrastructure, which «remains invisible to Ukrainians.»
The music track is approximately half composed of the sounds of data center operations: the noise of servers, equipment signals, fans, industrial air conditioners, the rustling of shoe covers in the corridors, and even the voices of technical support.
As noted in the press release, the author of the project was Anton Khvastunov, Director of Business Development at GigaCenter. Together with a mentor from «Culture of Sound», they transformed technical noise into a composition. The project was called «This is How DATA Sounds».
«Our goal is to remind in a non-standard way how important data centers are. Every letter, transaction, message, or Google search goes through data centers. For example, thanks to the stable functioning of GigaCenter, services are available that tens of millions of Ukrainians use every day,» said Khvastunov.
In addition to the audio track, the team released limited edition vinyl records for the company’s partners and clients.
Earlier, Middle Frontend Engineer Stanislav Kinash, a programmer who likes to work with Vue.js to music to get «into the resource» and concentrate better, asked other IT professionals whether music helps them while working, or, on the contrary, hinders them.
