"AI won't take our jobs, it will take our idiots". Mylovanov wants ChatGPT to replace bad teachers
Tymofiy Mylovanov, President of the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE), shared his thoughts on the role of artificial intelligence in education. According to him, the work of teachers can be partially delegated to AI.
Tymofiy Mylovanov, President of the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE), shared his thoughts on the role of artificial intelligence in education. According to him, the work of teachers can be partially delegated to AI.
«The good news: AI won’t take our jobs, it will take away the idiots. I spoke at DOU Day and said that a CEO, like every person in life, should only do what they are capable of. Everything else should be delegated. This rule also applies to artificial intelligence, including in teaching», — Mylovanov wrote on his Facebook.
He believes that most people are «afraid to hand over AI training because of conservatism» and pointed to violent resistance at Harvard and Pittsburgh, where «professors have enough influence and power to prevent any change.» That’s why Western universities are so slow.
Timofey Mylovanov said that KSE follows a different approach, and as an example, he gave a sociology course that was created on the basis of ChatGPT together with Rector Brik. According to Mylovanov, the Rector was able to «describe sociological concepts, give instructions and write explanations so that the machine can understand them.» Students uploaded his work to ChatGPT, and Mylovanov is currently testing the result of this work.
«The main thing is that I want those teachers who really changed my life to remain people. But those who simply forced me to be obedient, respect no one and do „as usual“, I would gladly replace with a GPT chat,» said the president of the Kyiv School of Economics.
He believes that thanks to this, in the lives of young people, «there may be fewer idiots who waste a dozen years of their lives.» «AI is not the enemy of education. It is a chance to get rid of boring and meaningless activities forever,» emphasized Timofey Mylovanov.
Duolingo CEO Louis von Ahn shares similar views , saying that AI will transform schools but won’t replace teachers anytime soon. He noted that in a classroom of 30 students, it’s difficult for a single teacher to offer personalized, adaptive instruction to everyone. AI, instead, could track individual performance in real time and adjust lesson difficulty based on how well each student is learning.
Earlier, Timofiy Mylovano stated that in about 20–30 years, most, if not all, cognitive tasks will be outsourced. «If you have an employee with whom you can work via Zoom, then these are the tasks that can be optimized in the future with the help of a digital avatar or agent,» he explained.
