The SBU detained a Kharkiv IT specialist who was passing on to the enemy the coordinates of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the assault on Kupyansk.
According to the SBU, the detainee had already collaborated with the Russians at the beginning of the full-scale war, when he lived in the Kupyansk district. During the capture of the city in the summer of 2022, he began working for the Russian occupation administration, where he set up and administered a computer network.
After the community was liberated, the collaborator moved to Kharkiv to avoid justice. Despite his attempt to "lay low" in the big city, he was detained in 2022. However, the court sentenced him to a non-custodial sentence.
According to the case materials, in the fall of 2025, the enemy remotely restored contact with him and instructed him to monitor the positions of Ukrainian troops fighting for Kupyansk.
To do this, the defendant traveled around the area near the front line, using the legend of alleged "trips to relatives", covertly recorded the locations of the Defense Forces and passed them on to the enemy.
The SBU counterintelligence exposed the attacker and detained him. During a search of his apartment and the country house of his relatives, a smartphone with evidence of working for the Russian Federation, Russian-style uniforms, and a homemade flag of the aggressor country were seized.
The perpetrator is currently being held without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
