The HG14 facility, developed by the state-owned energy company, includes a total of 2,934 platforms fixed to offshore steel structures, Interesting Engineering writes .
It is located almost 8 km from the coast and covers about 1,223 hectares in shallow sea water, where the depth ranges from 1 to 4 meters.
The structure, made up of 11,736 fixed steel beams, is designed to withstand waves, tides, strong winds and seasonal sea ice.
Each platform is about 60 meters long and 35 meters wide. A 66 kV submarine cable is combined with a shore cable to transmit photovoltaic energy over long distances at high power.
The huge plant consists of more than 2.3 million powerful 710-watt n-type photovoltaic modules. These double-sided panels are installed at an angle of 15 degrees. Being located on the water increases the efficiency of the system: cool sea air prevents overheating, and sunlight reflecting off the water surface creates additional energy.
A 66 kV submarine cable network transmits the power to land. A shore-based substation then steps up the power to 220 kV.
HG14 also integrates a 100 MW energy storage system with a capacity of 200 MWh. This increases the stability of the power system and ensures a more even supply of electricity.
The combined energy transmission and storage design of this solar farm increases its effective capacity by about 20%. It also reduces the cost of energy per unit by about 15%. Once fully operational, the farm will generate about 1.78 TWh of electricity per year.
This production volume can meet the needs of approximately 2.67 million urban residents.
