KAI will host the NASA Space Apps Challenge space hackathon. Participants are invited to create space-related projects in two days
On November 14–15, the Kyiv Aviation Institute (KAI) will host the NASA Space Apps Challenge international hackathon. Participants are invited to create their own project based on real NASA data in 48 hours. You can join even without programming experience. This time, participants will be asked to choose one of the tasks prepared by experts from NASA and partner space agencies. They will have real space research data at their disposal and two days to create a project.
This year, NASA has prepared 14 tasks. For example, participants are asked to create a game in which they manage a base on the Moon or Mars. The player will have to decide how to provide astronauts with food and energy, protect them from radiation, and prevent the mission from failing.
It is also possible to develop a program that will help astronauts monitor their health during long space flights. After all, in space, radiation and weightlessness affect the body, and a long stay in a confined space far from loved ones can affect their psychological state.
You could also create an app to choose a landing site on the Moon, taking into account lighting and the ability to communicate with Earth. Or turn scientific data about our planet into sounds so that the information can be heard as well as seen.
Teams will be able to choose their own tasks. You can work in teams of up to six people. Those who do not have their own team can also register - the organizers will help find other participants to work together. The best projects will be able to go to the international evaluation stage and compete with teams from other countries.
Earlier, dev.ua reported that the Kyiv team NVS-knot won the NASA Space Apps Challenge in 2025. They developed a tool that can help farmers analyze weather conditions and crop risks using NASA data. Their project was one of the winners among almost 1,000 works evaluated by the space agency.
