To shoot down Russian reconnaissance drones, the Ukrainian military uses, among other things, interceptor drones of the «Techno Taras» aircraft type.
«Our goal is to close the eyes of the Russians as much as possible 100%, where we can. Now we have an effective solution. We see that the number of requests for this product is very high,» Andriy Shuvalov, director of the Sergei Prytula Foundation, said in a comment to Military.
The aforementioned fund participated in the development of the drone, but the name of its manufacturer is not disclosed.
Similar Ukrainian drones replace expensive anti-aircraft missiles, as the cost of one Techno Taras drone is $1,600.
It has a secure digital daytime video connection, and an analog thermal imaging camera is used for nighttime. The drone is equipped with a 600-gram warhead in the nose.
The complex includes 20 aircraft: 15 day and 5 night, as well as a ground control station and a catapult.
Techno Taras can stay in the air for more than an hour and reaches a speed of 160 km/h.
The interceptor has a range of up to 35 km, and a ceiling of 6,000 meters. The aircraft’s airframe, initiation board, and warhead are manufactured in Ukraine, and the manufacturer could potentially switch to using domestic engines.
«The $1,600 Techno Taras aircraft can shoot down aircraft like the Merlin, which costs $300,000, and overall the effectiveness of its use is very high,» notes Bohdan Danyliv, head of the military department of the Serhiy Prytula Foundation.
Also, Techno Taras drones are already intercepting Russian Orlans, Zala, SuperCam, etc. According to Danyliv, the cost of our used aircraft is approximately UAH 8-10 million, and the cost of downed enemy UAVs is more than UAH 500 million.
