He said there are two main takeaways. The first is the need for much faster innovation.
«The innovation cycle during the war in Ukraine lasts from two to six weeks: when a new technology is deployed and then neutralized. And this applies in particular to software and hardware — the cycle is short. And the Russians learn just as quickly as the Ukrainians,» he emphasized.
The NATO representative noted that the bloc really needs to accelerate the introduction of innovations within itself.
«And we, we will agree at the summit on a rapid implementation action plan, which will significantly accelerate the pace of implementation of new technologies,» he emphasized.
The representative added that Ukrainians are sharing their lessons with NATO.
The second conclusion is the deep integration of military equipment as well as commercial civilian equipment.
«What you see in Ukraine is World War I, but also World War III, and it’s all intertwined,» he emphasized.
The NATO representative gave an example of how military, commercial and private initiatives are intertwined in modern warfare: «Civilian satellite data, drones built by humans, programs that have been developed and used by frontline personnel as well as civilians, unencrypted Russian communications using commercial off-the-shelf software, artificial intelligence tools that can be purchased from private companies, private companies protecting military networks. All of this is the way wars are fought and will be fought, and this is a good demonstration of it.»
«So, I think these are two lessons that we learn from this war,» the NATO representative emphasized.
