Nova Poshta announced that it has launched its first cogeneration gas piston unit as part of its energy independence program. Nova Poshta subsidiary Nova Energy plans to launch its first electricity storage unit in the summer.
A 1 MW power plant has been commissioned at the Nova Poshta hub in western Ukraine, the company’s press service reported. Six more CHPs are currently under installation and are due to appear in 2025, in particular in Kyiv.
It is noted that they will operate on the principle of dual generation and will produce electricity and heat from natural gas.
Nova Energy CEO Andriy Litvinenko told Forbes Ukraine that the company estimates the payback period for the installation to be three to five years. An increase in electricity prices could shorten this period.
He also noted that the company last week received the first third of the 4.8 MWh energy storage units it plans to install this year, and predicted the launch would be «in a few months.» By the end of 2025, Nova Energy plans to install three energy storage units.
«The key task now is not to make money, but to ensure the energy independence of Nova Poshta. Given the rules of the energy market, we must have a separate company to transmit electricity to all our facilities in Ukraine from several generation sites. As soon as we cover our own needs, we will be able to enter the market of external consumers», — said Lytvynenko.
