The Security Service of Ukraine has demonstrated a new generation of Sea Baby unmanned maritime platforms. They have received reinforced engines, increased range, and new weapons.
The SBU noted that the new Sea Baby modifications were created with funds raised by Ukrainians on the UNITED24 fundraising platform. On February 22, 2024, UNITED24, monobank, Serhiy Sternenko, and Igor Lachenkov launched a fundraiser for 35 sea drones for the SBU — Sea Baby. The fundraiser was closed in 36 hours.
The updated drones are capable of covering a distance of over 1,500 km, carrying up to 2,000 kg of cargo, have reinforced engines and a modern navigation system, the SBU notes. Previous models could carry 850 kilograms of explosives, reach a speed of 90 kilometers per hour, and sail 1,000 kilometers.
The SBU development team demonstrated two drones with different weapons. The first is equipped with a gyro-stabilized machine gun mount that has an auto-capture and target recognition system. The second carries heavy weapons: a 10-round Grad multiple launch rocket system.
Their creation was announced last year.
«Our Sea Baby is not just a drone, but a multifunctional platform that is constantly being improved. And today we can confirm that they are equipped with a multiple launch rocket system and this technological solution is already showing powerful results. So the enemy is waiting for new surprises. We are working as always efficiently,» the SBU noted.
One of these surprises was the SBU operation on the night of December 5-6, 2024 in the Kerch Bay. When the Russian occupiers tried to intercept the Sea Baby, Ukrainian drones suddenly opened fire in return .
«The security service is constantly developing other models of the latest weapons and has already successfully used them in the Black Sea. However, detailed information about these means is not yet subject to disclosure,» the developers said.
