Nvidia and TSMC on Friday announced the release of their first finished American-made wafer, which will later become the basis of Blackwell chips for artificial intelligence purposes.
«You’ve created something incredible, and over time you’ll realize you’re part of something historic. The most important chip is now made in America,» Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang said during a tour of TSMC’s semiconductor manufacturing plant in Phoenix.
Huang also praised the work of US President Donald Trump and repeatedly stated that for the US this is «just the beginning» of manufacturing for artificial intelligence purposes.
The publication states that this achievement is one of the first in the US’s fight in the race to control the future of artificial intelligence.
«Nvidia and TSMC are working together to build the infrastructure that will power the world’s AI hubs right here in America,» Nvidia said in a blog post.
The two companies' joint statement also said they would create thousands of high-tech jobs.
Huang, in particular, added that Nvidia plans to spend half a trillion dollars on artificial intelligence-related infrastructure in the coming years.
Interestingly, Nvidia plans to buy Intel shares for $5 billion and jointly develop «multiple generations of specialized products for data centers and PCs»: this will help them jointly compete with AMD in the processor market.
