The United Arab Emirates will officially add a course on artificial intelligence to the state school curriculum. According to Bloomberg, the lessons will cover both basic technical knowledge and ethical aspects and practical applications of AI.
Thus, the UAE joins countries that are actively integrating the latest technologies into education — such as China, which recently announced a similar course for junior and middle school students.
The Emirati government makes no secret of its ambitions: the country is investing in large-scale infrastructure for the development of AI, including data centers and a special investment fund, which in the future could grow to over $100 billion. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman last year called the UAE a potential «regulatory testing ground» for testing new technologies and shaping global rules.
Against this backdrop, the US is considering easing restrictions on Nvidia chip exports to the UAE, which President Donald Trump is expected to discuss during a visit to the Emirates in mid-May.
The UAE also plans to invest up to $1.4 trillion in the US over the next decade, including in energy, manufacturing, AI and semiconductors.
