Danish Terma and Ukrainian Odd Systems to work together on AI-based drone interceptors

Odd Systems, a Ukrainian defense innovation company specializing in the development and production of thermal imaging cameras and FPV drones, has announced a partnership with Danish defense concern Terma Group to work together on a low-cost AI-based drone interceptor.

Terma Group is the largest defense company in Denmark, operating in all key domains - air, sea, land, space. It has decades of manufacturing experience in a wide range of defense solutions. It is also known for its integrator capabilities and work with various sensors.

Odd Systems provides its experience with FPV drones, thermal imaging cameras, and cooperation with the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine to create a scalable and reliable platform to counter various drone threats that are escalating in the realities of modern warfare.

Yaroslav Azhnyuk, co-founder of Odd Systems: “We are pleased to work with Terma, a team that is so professional and dedicated to ensuring the safety of the skies over Europe from any drone intruders. We look forward to developing a reliable autonomous interceptor platform. Such cooperation between teams from Ukraine and the EU is extremely important for the future of European security.”

Due to the growing role and challenges of various types of drones on the battlefield, kinetic means are needed to counter them. The challenge is to combine the detection, tracking and interception of an enemy UAV with another autonomous means. The key types of drones that need to be countered vary dramatically: from FPV and tactical ISR copters (Mavic) to operational fixed-wing ISR drones (Zala) and long-range strike drones (Shahed). Terma and Odd Systems will combine their existing solutions while simultaneously developing a suite of products to counter these and other aerial threats.

Philip Rensch-Jacobsen, Vice President of Terma Group: “We are proud to partner with Odd Systems, whose innovative solutions and battle-hardened platforms serve as undeniable proof of the power of the Ukrainian engineering school. They have proven their extraordinary effectiveness in extreme conditions, demonstrating speed and cost-effectiveness unattainable for Western manufacturers. Together, we strive to integrate best-in-class technologies with flexible, combat-ready drone platforms to accelerate the development of future air combat capabilities. Cooperation with Odd Systems is the most rational and productive vector of movement.”

As a manufacturing and R&D company, Odd Systems supplies the Gorska-12 FPV aerial interceptor platform, as well as the Stus-7 and Lupynis-10 FPV strike platforms, which are equipped with both UAVs and UAVs in day and night modifications. The company also developed and manufactures in Ukraine the Kurbas-256 and Kurbas-640 thermal imaging cameras, which are the leading thermal imaging cameras in the world for defense FPV by a number of indicators.

Odd Systems is a camera company founded on the premise that cameras are the most important sensors in the coming autonomous revolution. As global supply chain risks increase, independent expertise in key technologies, and cameras are one of them, is becoming increasingly important for Europe. Understanding how important such expertise is after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Odd Systems is developing day and night vision products, as well as a software platform based on the team’s many years of experience in the camera technology stack.
