OpenAI for Government brings together all of OpenAI’s existing government projects in one direction, including ChatGPT Gov — a chatbot for government employees — as well as its work with NASA, the National Institutes of Health, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and the Treasury Department, Bloomberg writes .
As part of this contract, OpenAI will work with the Department of Defense to find ways AI can help with administrative tasks, such as providing medical care to U.S. military personnel and helping prevent cyberattacks.
This effort is another attempt by OpenAI to sell its technology to the US government.
Late last year, the company also announced that it would partner with weapons manufacturer Anduril Industries Inc. to develop artificial intelligence for counter-drone systems, expanding OpenAI’s collaboration with the U.S. government, particularly in the area of national security.
The company also brought in a former senior Pentagon official to lead its national security policy team and added a former head of the National Security Agency to its board of directors.
Additionally, OpenAI began working with the Pentagon on a number of projects last year, including cybersecurity tools. The company previously relaxed its ban on military use of ChatGPT by removing the ban from policy.
