Not just one gadget: OpenAI is developing a whole “family of devices” for its chatbots

OpenAI President Greg Brockman confirmed that the company is working on a «family of devices» for its models — and the first of them will appear «in the near future.»
He said this in an interview with Joanna Stern on YouTube, writes Android Authority.
OpenAI’s hardware plans were first announced in 2024, when the company brought in former Apple design chief Jony Ive. Since then, there have been reports that the company’s first device could resemble a pen or a portable speaker without a screen.
Brockman did not reveal what form factor the future devices will take — whether it will be a smart speaker with or without a screen, a pen, or even headphones with ChatGPT built in. He only noted that the company’s goal is to create devices that will be truly useful in people’s everyday lives and that they themselves will want to have.
Brockman confirmed that OpenAI hardware devices will be available «soon,» though he did not give a specific timeframe. This is consistent with previous reports: OpenAI’s director of global affairs, Chris Lehain, said earlier this year that the company was on track to launch its first hardware device in the second half of 2026.
