The desktop app now includes ChatGPT and Codex sections, with additional tabs for regular chat and work tasks within the former. The new unified interface will initially be available to a limited number of users to gather feedback, before being rolled out to everyone, TechCrunch writes .
“This will allow you to go from exploring an idea to fully implementing it using ChatGPT in one place. You will be able to upload files, connect plugins, and ask ChatGPT to create a website, presentation, or perform a task online, while simultaneously reviewing and correcting its work. At the same time, the Codex will remain a separate section in the desktop version,” OpenAI notes.
In addition to integrating tabs, the company is changing its approach to limits: from now on, ChatGPT and Codex will use a common token pool . OpenAI assured that this will be imperceptible for most users, but during active use of complex models, some users will have to wait for limit updates more often.
Recall that OpenAI's competitor, Anthropic, back in September combined chat and collaboration (Cowork) functions in its Claude service , placing them on one screen.
