OpenAI is planning the largest update to ChatGPT in its history, aiming to turn it into a “super app” with programming tools and AI agents to boost revenue ahead of a potential IPO.
The changes are part of a broader reorganization at OpenAI as the company redirects resources to attract lucrative enterprise clients and intensify competition with rival Anthropic, Reuters reported .
The update will bring more value and resources to OpenAI's Codex programming product and is set to roll out in the coming weeks, initially appearing as an update to the ChatGPT website and mobile apps.
To drive usage, OpenAI is redesigning the ChatGPT interface, adding new prompts and features that will direct users to coding tools, image generation, and partner services like Canva and Booking.com
Most Codex users are paying customers, while 2 million companies generate about 40% of OpenAI’s revenue, a share the company expects to grow to 50% by the end of the year.
Earlier this year, OpenAI said ChatGPT serves over 900 million weekly active users , adding that the number of paid consumer users has surpassed 50 million.
