OpenAI has introduced AI-generated pets to the Codex app. These animated companions don’t write code themselves, but instead float on top of the screen. They can tell you what Codex is currently working on, and notify you when it’s finished or needs your help. Users can type the command “/pet” in the Codex app to summon or hide a companion, Engadget reports . There are eight standard pets to choose from, but you can also create your own with the help of artificial intelligence via the command “/hatch” — for example, a cute goblin helper. Early adopters have already downloaded a variety of options, including several versions of Microsoft Clippy.
Pets are now available in both the Windows and macOS versions of Codex. For a limited time, OpenAI is also offering 30 days of ChatGPT Pro for 10 of its favorite generated companions.
